Installed it yesterday and so far a noticeable improvement. Really like how you can boot directly to the desktop.

I just got a newpc with windows 8 about 5 weeks ago and haven't installed it yet. Hopefully it will be a little easier but I mostly stay on Desktop and haven't had much of a struggle.

And an upgrade it is. Apparently, you can't do a clean install of 8.1 with an 8.0 product key.

Going from 8.1 preview to 8.1 final, you're advised that you'll have to reinstall everything, only your data gets saved. So I decided to rather do a clean install from the official 8.1 ISO (got it via MS DreamSpark). Well, it won't accept my 8.0 key to even install. Instead, I'll have to download the whole thing all over again, this time via the Windows Store and "upgrade" from 8.1 preview to final.

Why Microsoft, Why?
