SEATTLE — Microsoft's Windows XP operating system is about to get faster and Windows Vista isn't, according to a report that caused a stir online this week as industry watchers speculated that a zippier XP could keep customers from upgrading to Vista.

Microsoft, however, said it's too early to evaluate the two service packs it plans to release next year.

Whatever, Vista is sure prettier than XP. It's aptly named.

The irony is that a report came out recently which revealed that the fastest Vista machine you can buy is actually.... a Mac! Yeap - that's right.

Microsoft really fouled up their operating system product with Vista... granted Windows has always been far from perfect anyway; but by releasing something newer which in fact has less hardware and software compatibility than previous versions, and something which starts up even slower, just doesn't seem all that bright. Microsoft ideally needs to start over and go back to basics... it seems that today's versions of Windows are just heavily patched (but still buggy and vulnerable) versions released previously. They have the money and intelligent people (through acquisitions) to do this... perhaps new management would help drive the innovation they really need.

Microsoft has fallen into the glitz trap. In an effort to make their home OS everything to everyone, it ended up being the most bloated, over rated, pig of a program that could be considered a virus by most OS standards.

From what I have gathered, there is a SP3 out for (or on its way) for the XP OS that will flat out blow the doors off Vista, so we shall see.
