Most people don't need more than 4gb of RAM for normal tasks, but I would definitely recommend it be expandable to 8gb or more to make it slightly more future proof.

As long as your OS is 64 bit then you get the full 4 gigs of memory. 32 bit OSes only see 3.25-3.50 gigs of memory even though you have 4 gigs.

Whether you get by with 4 gigs of memory is cutting it close. I'd prefer 6-8 gigs of memory.

id'e buy another asus pc. the good thing about asus is they give you lifetime support on the pc unlike some companies that charge you after a year
