So if you are still running XP and microsoft security essentials, you will have seen the nag screen by now.
New twist started yesterday, a definition update to security essentials has made XP run like crap.
Even machines where windows update is turned off, the MSE update will cripple it.
Unfortunate programming error or deliberate, I don't know.
But I do know I have seen this 3 times in 2 days.

I sincerely doubt that. MS honestly doesn't care if you upgrade or not. You've been warned you will get no updates so they aren't liable for whatever happens to your system.
XP users are dwindling more and more every day. The last stat I hears was 23%.
MS has bigger fish to fry trying to make inroads in tablet and phone shares...

MSE is an infuriating program which I ran for about 6 months 'til my patience ran out. Uninstalled it a couple of months ago.

Just the daily definition update - which you cannot turn off - cripples your machine for about 5 minutes every day. If, as you say, they've added a new wrinkle, that should only hasten your getting rid of it.

XP continues to run just fine....and far better without MSE.

Last month my site stats indicate about 11% of users. That's a very large sample size and is going to be your average Joe users but may favor the older crowd. That may not sound like a lot but that is just a fraction of a percent more than all Linux users and second only too Windows 7 which is 38%.

Order a copy of Norton Utilities from ebay for amount $10. Have it run a deep scan and it should clear up the computer to run better.

Still... not really the point I was trying to make. People think MS is SO EVIL!!!
There is no way they are crippling your PC to force you out of XP. That's juat paranoia.
And MSE certainly does NOT update every day.

I have no problems running MSE with Windows 7 and never did. It doesnt slow my computer down at all. If it is not working with XP, just get another free one. There are tons of them out there and some are rated pretty highly.
