I have a flash drive and there is a folder that contains personal information which are audio files I recorded from my therapist sessions so if I did I don't want anyone to hear them, how can I add a password to a folder so I can only open them?

As described, the only way you could do it (off the top of my head) would be to put the personal files inside an encrypted zip file.

A safer solution would be to encrypt the entire USB stick. Check out TrueCrypt. It'll encrypt the entire drive, but be aware that it will need to be installed on any computer you want to use the USB stick with.

Use an encrypted 7Z file that is self executable. Easiest way. I store all my passwords for all my accounts in one of these types of files (as a backup in case lastpass somehow bites the dust) , the password is a random 32 digit ASCII password I have stored as a QR code in my safe deposit box and my physical wallet.

I use a Code Corporation barcode 2D scanner I got for 25 bucks off ebay (retail price new is $500) and scan in all my passwords now and don't know any of them.

In your case, any 8-10 digit password with a combination of characters would work fine. AES encrypted 7z files cannot be hacked by the average 'haxor' and probably not even by the NSA, as much as people like to be conspiracy minded and think that all encryption programs have 'back doors'

A lock switch exists on many thumb drives. They're not at all secure, since most people know how to simply unlock the switch. Their purpose is to keep you from accidentally deleting files from the thumb drive.

Not the switch on the side. SOFTWARE comes on the thumb drive.
