Anyone upgraded their speakers for listening to music?

I'm not a gamer or a super elite audiophile--but I do like my music, and it might be worth exploring something a little better than what I have. I listen to chill, EDM, and hip-hop and I'd lean on a clean thump and good mids rather than a loud, drowning bass. I don't have high quality FLACs or any of that--most of my collection is just MP3s or M4A audio files and I generally listen through itunes. I currently have the logitech X-230.

Are the Klipsch 2.1 or Logitech Z623 worth it compared to my X-230s? Are the 2.1, z623, or other speakers in the $120 pricepoint worth the upgrade from my X-230s, or there's no need unless I'm getting much higher end speakers?

A semi-related question is whether a dedicated sound card is worth it for casual music listening.

Can't remember the specs but I have a fairly recent HP pavilion bought in late 2012 it's one of those new all-in one boards that has everything integrated out the box. Again don't know where the sweet spot in $$$, computer hardware, audio files, and speakers is--what aspect of these options should I be concentrating on?

Thanks.

I take it that you mean using the windows system (not the Music program) is the best way to improve sound from the computer. I'll try it out in lieu of speakers, sound cards, etc.

A simple and affordable way to improve audio on a computer is to bypass the mass produced DACs and pick up some schit.

Schiit Audio, Headphone amps and DACs made in USA.

I have a 5.1 Logitech system that I bought from Walmart for about $70 and it sounds just fine.

For most people, a dedicated sound card isn't going to make that big of a difference. I personally don't really use speakers to listen to my music though.

I use the Audio Technica ATH-M50's

But if you don't want headphones, then yeah... those speakers are fine :-)
