Hey Y'all,

I just finished my first build. It isn't all that much, I guess, as far as computers go.

But I built it. And when I powered it up the motherboard recognized the memory, hard drive, DVD drive - everything.
Used an ASRrock H-81 ITX motherboard. I liked the CoolerMaster Elite 130 case and built around that.

I'm a stock trader, but not a gamer, so it's all pretty simple. Found a monitor at a pawn shop ($30), and used the old HDD and the old DVD drive out of my dead HP computer.

It works! And why am I grinning?

Because I'm 69 years old. And when I started I had no idea where to begin.

Am I a Geek yet?

Sure. However, the easier way to get to be a geek is to bite the heads off chickens.

Congrats!

It's not horribly hard once you figure out the correct variants of all the components.

Thanks!
Kind of reminded me of building hot rod in that you can't just grab any old engine and expect it to work with just any old transmission, and then expect to have something you want to drive and so forth.
The whole thing has to work together.

The biggest thing to me was learning the language. As in, "Whut th' heck's a 'SATA'?"

not every one knows that ram has to be matched to the motherboard and just any ram would not worth with any motherboard. The rest is just plug and play, although time consuming.

Congrats. Just the fact that you did it yourself instead of having someone else build it for you is sweet. Enjoy it.
