I keep getting these pop-ups from DIVX wanting me to update it when I don't use it at all, and deleted everything DIVX I could possibly find on my Mac. It just keeps coming back over and over, and I can't find a way to get rid of this annoyance. Is there something in the mysterious hidden files deep in the bowels of the OS I can get at to get rid of this?

Not a user, but found this Divx support forum.

https://forums.divx.com/divx/topics/...pic-reply-list[settings][filter_by]=all

This is apparently a known issue, especially if you did not do a proper "deinstall" via Finder.

Read the whole thread before trying any "fix". It was updated as recent as 6 days ago.

Good Luck.........

Thank you! I did use Finder, and trashed everything I could find that was DIVX, but that pesky thing is still in there somewhere. I'll give them a visit.

later on....

Ah! figured it out, I had to use the uninstall DIVX that comes with it, and I had already deleted that. So I had to reinstall DIVX to get it back, then uninstall it

Divx is a video codec, you may not be aware you are using it. I would assume it wasn't installed as the computer shipped?

It may have been installed by something else. For example it could be used in a video sequence for video game before it starts. I don't know how Mac handles codecs though. If it were Windows machine uninstalling it at the very least would cause the video to not display and possibly cause the game to error out.

If you uninstall juts keep that in the back of your head if you have problems with other software.

Divx video was pretty common about 10 years ago just for videos you might download, not so much anymore.
