i am having problems with my external hard drive. At one time i had it hooked up to the dish unit and it was working perfectly, now it is not.
I tried the hard drive on my computer and it is fine. I tried another hard drive on the dish system and still nothing.
I know the last time that i had to do something to get it to work, but can't remember what that was.
If anyone has suggestions on how to get the hard drive to work, i would appreciate it.
If not i will have to get a new hopper and lose the 300+ videos that i have recorded on the system.
Does anyone know how to get those movies off the old hopper and then on to a new hopper?
Looking for idea's
thanks in advance
Dish uses a encoder to record the shows, and must use their decoder to watch the show. Just depends on the format on what they use, as i dont have a dish to look at but last i heard they put some DMR on the recording to make sure you cant copy it over to HD.
What you can do is download a trial version of HD sentinal to test the HD health. If it fails, than your SOL.
what it is not doing is is that the dish dvr is not recognizing the external hard drive. Usually it shows that there is a external hard drive, but now nothing.
I have tried just about everything that i know.
Same here, no dish experience but based on the following, the culprit seemed to be the dish equipment:

Are there any settings/options on the dish, either physically accessed or through the screen of your TV that might be wrong?
You will be better off searching for this on dish vendors web site/support forum and/or looking at the relevant section of the dish user manual.
If you can "see" the drive from your PC we can assume it's good. If there is nothing important on it, reformat from the DVR and it should work. You will lose any data on the drive but it should then recognize it without problems. You can also call them.
