According to this article, it is indeed possible to turn off all "forced" updates.

You can access services via the control panel in Administrative Tools, as an alternative to typing services.msc in the search box. I have disabled mine and will leave it that way until I see a compelling reason to enable it again.

As I noted in another thread I've been using this method on my Windows 10 VM for over a year and it seems to work, although I am curious as to why the internet seems to have just learned about it

You're not addressing "the internet", you're addressing me.

Clearly, lots of people aren't aware of this as I wasn't until I found this article in a search this morning. And equally clearly, some updates have wreaked havoc with some users computers causing consternation and frustration on the part of those users. Many have expressed their irritation with this policy change on the part of Microsoft and have voiced their desire to have a way to turn off automatic updates.

My purpose in posting this thread is to help those people. Yours seems to be to boast about how much smarter you are than the rest of us. Go do it in another thread, please.

Someone seems to have a stick where there shouldn't be one

This is the 3rd or 4th article I've seen on tech forums in the last week mentioning this "new method". It isn't a new method, it goes back to at least the Windows XP days.

I made comment that the method appears to work, and that it isn't new, if that's too much for you to deal with you might want to reduce your eggnog intake
