Test System:
ASROCK X99 EXTREME4 motherboard
XEON E5-2650v4 cpu
2 x 64gb ddr4 ecc rdimms (16gb x 4 kits) = 128gb
MSI RX480 8gb video card
Crucial 128GB SSD
Problem:
With all DIMM slots populated (128gb total):
- HW Monitor utility sees all 8 slots populated with 16gb modules but other screen shows mem is 64gb
- Windows 10 64bit shows 64gb as well.
- ASROCK X99 EXTREME4 BIOS (latest as of today) shows on one screen only a1 a2 b1 b2 modules, not c1 c2 d1 d2. (a1, a2, b1, b2) are 4 DIMM slots to left of CPU, (c1, c2, d1, d2) are 4 DIMM slots to right of CPU.
So only the 4 DIMMS to left of CPU appear to work. BIOS has option to see a photo representation of current setup, and it shows the DIMMS in the right slots, but other screen only shows half the RAM (only a1, a2, b1, b2 DIMM slots are recognizing populated RAM).
Other info:
Some of the gold foil socket to CPU contacts (made out of some thin goldish colored triangular shaped contact points on the socket were bent.. I straightened out most and put in CPU and rest of system.. booted fine, booted into Windows 10 64 fine, played some games just fine. Only problem is the DIMM slots to right of CPU don't seem to recognize anything.
Question:
Could this happen due to some bent contacts on socket? or not possible to have the DIMM bank to right of CPU all not recognize memory populating the slots?
It is not your BIOS it is hardware. Check your motherboard docs to see exactly what type/size of memory it will read. It could also be one or more of the DIMM's are faulty. It could be things such as timing, ECC and/or Parity as well as the size and speed. Try swapping slots or trying one at a time.
make sure your using non-ecc ram if this is the right board and specs. If you need ECC needs to be pair and if one is bad, the other pair will not work. Try doing the swap around, put 2 in at a time till it doesnt show up and that is your issue. If your CPU has bad pins, it will not boot but than again i had one with a broken pin and worked like a champ. Might want to look under a scope to make sure the pins are good and not loose. If your sure the ram is good, check for blown caps near the ram socket.

Did you try switching the memory banks to the other sides?
What are you building, a mega rendering / animation workstation? - Can't be if you're using a **** ATI gaming card.
And a video game PC would probably never need more than 24 gb.
I have a nearly decked out 32gb DDR3 Sager 970M 6GB and it has never choked on any video game.
