As of today, Windows Vista users will no longer receive any Windows updates or security patches.

After Windows XP being in support for so, so long, it almost seems too quick for Windows Vista. Then again, maybe not. I loathed Vista. I jumped right to 7 from XP. I like 10 OK, but Windows 7 is pretty solid.

Vista was horrid when it was released, a service pack or 2 fixed most of the issues but I skipped it as well and went from XP to 7, which I'll keep till it's EOL in 2020.

Eh,

XP: 2001 - 2014
Vista: 2006 - 2017

A bit shorter but not that much.

Vista never really caught on anyway. People hated it at the time because the hardware wasn't up to running it. Microsoft basically opted to kill the tainted Vista name and release it as Windows 7 a few years later. 7 is basically just Vista with a Service Pack.

I am using Windows XP Profession x64, which lost support decades ago. I use it because I like it. If the day should come when I am unable to do what I want with it, then I will have to come up with something. I do have a copy of Windows 7 on the shelf, but I like XP x64 a lot better.

My Vista desktop is running fine with Ubuntu OS installed. I agree with Jason's comment above about Windows 7 being a make-over of Vista..... never saw that much difference between the two myself.

Makes zero sense to be on XP that has full backdoors & vulnerabilities unpatched. Unless you fully harden your system and lock it down, I wouldn't put that system on the internet for a minute. If you're out in public there's a good chance it will be hacked easily with keyloggers.

I hadn't seen a computer running Vista in well over a year, until this week on EOL day, when I saw someone doing a presentation from a laptop running Vista. Good riddance.

I've got one sitting here next to me. All it does is the weather. If someone wants to hack in and see what zip code's weather I'm interested in, have at it. It was having some hiccups a few weeks ago so knowing it was going EOL I got a new Dell with Windows 10. But as long as the Vista wants to do the weather it's welcome to it.

I never liked Vista. It was a surprise gift from an old boyfriend so I used it for secure functions only until my XP died a year or so ago. It was OK but I never would have bought it for myself.

Good riddance indeed!

Except for its ability to handle 4K video better and having built-in Flash Player, Windows 10 for me is much less-preferred than Vista. I still have Vista on my 2nd internal hard drive and would use it, if i was doing offline projects. But Windows XP is still the best to me, except for video and if you go to many businesses, medical clinics, etc., you'll see that XP-Pro is still what they use on their in-house networks.

If it weren't for the free little program called Start Menu X, I would be lost trying to find anything in the chaos that passes for a start menu on Win 10. The keyboard performance on Win 10 is very poor for me. I have so many missed capitals and other keys and back-spacing is erratic, while it's very dependable on XP and Vista.

I've found that the Google Chrome Browser, alleviates much of the Win 10 deficiency. And I do not like having to install every update they toss at me. Some have disabled older programs that have not yet updated themselves for compatibility. I have a high-end, quad-core, media-centric computer, that just had its 9th birthday and I'm going to ride it to the end.
