Now that I've restored my computer to factory condition I want good anti-virus and malware protection. So I bought and installed Malwarebytes Premium. It says that it removes worms, Trojans, rootkits, rogues, dialers. spyware, viruses, bots, and other malware.

But during the installation process it recommended temporally disabling existing anti-virus programs which made me wonder if Malwarebytes is supposed to be used with another anti-virus program even though it says that it detects and removes viruses itself. Should I also get additional anti-virus protection?

Advice is appreciated. Thanks.

When installing, not disabling an already installed program might prevent it from doing so.
Can't comment on running it concurrently with another program since I use it at will and it's only the free version.

The free version is an on-demand scanner. The paid version also offers real time protection. You should never run more than one AV as far as I know. There may be some special cases where you would but generally no.

I did not read your question correctly. The general recommendation is to run only one antivirus program to avoid slowing down your computer. If you have an antivirus program running it is possible that it could interfere with the installation of any program. Thus the general recommendation to turn off when loading a new program.

If you are running windows you have Defender running. It could be that your new program will turn it off. I run defender and other virus programs on an as needed basis.

I just checked and Defender informed that I was using another program. However, it gave the option to run occasional scans.
I turned it on and will see what happens.

I use Malwarebytes premium and Windows Defender. I don't think there is a need to pay for another antivirus program, and I definitely don't recommend using the free ones. Those are bloatware more than anything else.

I noticed on the box that it says that Malwarebytes is compatible with leading antivirus software, so apparently it can be used with other antivirus programs. I may just use Malwarebytes by itself though.

I've been using Malwarebytes Premium with Avira anti-virus for several years now. They don't seem to get in each other's way at all.

Through version 2.x MWB was designed to be run with additional AV software. Starting with version 3 it is more than capable of being the sole malware/AV product, and Windows Action Center sees at as such.

IMHO there is no need for additional AV when running MWB Pro.
