If you really only use one device, then consider returning your router/wi-fi access point to the cable company and simply using an ethernet CAT5-e wire.
A lot of these wi-fi solutions that cost hundreds of dollars seem silly, when sometimes a plain old fashioned wire will do the trick.
Assuming of course the laptop has an Ethernet jack, and you don’t trip over the cord.
Keep in mind that you'll get better WiFi single connections to different devices if you have a router with multiple antennas, that are angled differently. The connection is best when the antennas of the router and the other device are aligned at the same angle.
The two 'ear' routers should have one vertical and one horizontal.
IE: The vertical antenna has the best connection to a vertically held cell phone, (or vertically mounted TV), and the horizontal has the best connection to a horizontally placed tablet.
