Skype and a good webcam.... (download, camera, connecting, USB)

Has anyone used Skype? My sis' lives across the country and recently gave birth to a beautiful girl. I just wanted to know if it's worth the download or should we look elsewhere. Plus, we wanted to know the best webcam (money is no object) so we can give it to our other family members around the world. My brother-in-law is in Japan and my brother will be in Oulu, Finland. Is there a better one over the other.

Since money is no object, the best webcam is a Firewire or USB camcorder, depending on whether the computer you're connecting it to has a Firewire port. I use a Panasonic Mini DV camcorder and often get compliments from the other end of my video calls for how good my video looks. The main advantages to using a camcorder are the ability to zoom and the ability to use the camera's viewfinder to aim the camera and see what you are sending.
