I use Zoom on my Chromebook on a regular basis. One day last week I logged in to find that it had automatically been upgraded to "Zoom Workplace." Now anytime I get on a call, I'm inundated with "low bandwidth" messages and the audio quality is very choppy. I need to figure out how to fix this. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling Zoom but it just ends up being the same version with the same issue.
I believe this problem to be unique to Zoom, as I was on an MS Teams meeting today and it was very smooth. I really hope I don't need to get a new laptop just to keep using Zoom.
The current version of Zoom is 6.0. Many older versions of apps are available for download from various third-party websites. A quick search shows the previous version (zoom-5-56-2.apk) is available.
- Download the previous version of Zoom to your download folder.
- Uninstall your current version of Zoom.
- Do a search on how to sideload an .apk file on a Chromebook.
- If the procedure requires turning on Developer Mode in the Chromebook settings, might want to turn it back to off when you are done.
