Hi there. If this goes along with another topic you can delete me, or mock me.

Last night I must have clicked on some sort of random site (no, it wasn't porn, as my friend tried to tease me about, ha!) and the next thing I know I was getting a couple of pop ups. Then my McAfee thing popped up saying that i wasn't protected. I fixed it so it said I was protected, and a message popped up saying that that McAfee blocked a Vundo Trojan. However, a couple more times it popped up and said that I wasn't protected and I had to click the button to fix it. I did and ran a scan. I restarted a couple of times and everything seems to be ok this morning, and I am scanning with McAfee again.

Then also last night my Outlook was acting really slowly and I cleaned out the mailbox a bit... it still seems a bit slow, but it could just be Outlook.

Should I go ahead and follow this thread: https://www.city-data.com/forum/compu...r-spyware.html or do you all think I should be in the clear?

BTW, yes, i'm pretty paranoid about this. my last computer totally died and I had to do a complete reinstall, so i'm not interested in going through that again.

It is likely your still infected, Mcafee is a poor choice for AV, the only worse choice is Norton.
Download and run Malwarebytes Malwarebytes.org, if you still have issues follow the cleaning instructions you posted.

Thanks.

BTW, what do you recommend for anti virus? I was using AVG on my old computer after the prior meltdown.

AVG or Avast for freebies, Kaspersky or NOD32 for paid options, just make sure that what ever you use has anti malware as well.

Google "online virus scan" and get past the paid ads at the top. You will find a number of them. Symantec, Trend Micro, Bit Defender to name a few. The advantage is that they are kept up to date.

thanks. I took NHDave's suggestion and used the Malwarebytes software, and it said in the log that it deleted the trojans and some other adware that was on my machine. now i will try one of the online scans to see what happens.

thanks everyone. i restarted after running the Malwarebyte software, and then did an online scan with Trend Micro and nothing showed up except for a few cookies, which i can live with more than trojans.

so i *think* everything is better now.
i just need to be more careful with my surfing.

thanks again.
