I have a pressing question about the parking situation in Westport. It seems there are no big parking garages in Westport, Green Farms and Southport. In such a case, where can a tenant park his car since he cannot possibly get a parking permit on a 5 year wait list?

Can anyone also give me some insight on the morning peak commute time from South Wilton (say from the northern tip of silvermine golf club) to south norwalk rail station by circumventing route 7 and go on the local roads like silvermine ave?

While Westport has direct trains, I just wonder if commuters actually struggle with parking. I feel that Wilton isn't too bad from a commute standpoint as long as people can get to south norwalk station (with more trains and parking space than any station in Westport) in a competitive time.

This is the best forum EVER for property purchase info. I gratefully thank all the gurus who had given me tonnes of valuable information.

Westport commuters do not struggle with train parking and if you were quoted a 5 year wait for parking then I am sure they told you about the other commuter lots available. One provides a shuttle bus from Imperial Ave and the other lot is in walking distance on Saugatuck Ave...

And, I wouldn't just assume your tenant will be a commuter, either.

so that explains the price premium

what about green farms and southport? do they also have satellite parking lots with shuttle bus for commuters without parking permit?

Green Farms and Southport are smaller secondary stations. They are located in primarily residential areas, do not have a lot of trains stopping at them and do not have much parking either. Fairfield, Westport and South Norwalk are major stations so they have more parking options. Jay

How is the traffic situation in Westport during peak morning hours? Im looking at a house thats 6 mins northwest of southport rail station and I assume a commuter would have to drive all the way to westport station for more schedule and parking space. Will he be stuck on i95 or post road E as he drives west to westport rail station?

Most likely the driver would avoid I-95 for a short trip like that. They do not even have to get on the Post Road either though they will probably need to cross it. While there is some traffic it should not be significant but they would probably need to add a bit more time than if they drove it off-peak. Jay

Just to clarify the Westport Train Station parking situation. There are 3 types of parking.

1. Seasonal permit parking (5 year waiting list).
2. There are lots that are daily park lots where they leave a bill on your windshield which cost $4 a day. Unfortunately these spots are limited and are usually completely full by 6:30 am.
3. Daily Fee lot right by the station. The upside is that its right there, plenty of spots but costs $13 a day.

There is also free parking on Imperial Ave and you pay for the shuttle bus. There is also the Westport Minibus service that a lot of people use.
