had this posted in the renting forum but got no response:

Hi all, I am in CT...After a month of my deposit "being in the mail" I finally receive it today. Now $4700 at 1.5% for 1 year comes out to me as being $70.50 The LL said it was $17.65

here is the rates for CT
DOB: Connecticut Rental Security Deposit And Mortgage Escrow Interest Rate

is my math wrong?? Can I request a bank statement? Its in my lease that the rate was 1.5%

Second question, he took money out for cleaning (place was spotless) and some other things but gave no receipts. Can I request to see them or am I out of luck?
We also did all of this with a Realtor on both sides. His Realtor said she had no idea he would keep anything after having a second final walk through with him after he had one with us and mentioned nothing of what he took money out for. I have realized that renting with a Realtor offers no help or protection. I am thinking of writing a letter to the real estate company addressing how disappointed I am that they would represent people like this, oh I forgot to mention that the house was flooded before we moved in and we found out through the neighbors. It also flooded twice in the finished basement while we lived there and all the LL did was drop off an at home carpet cleaner and told us to clean it up. I am 100% sure this place has mold.

thanks~

I had no idea that mortgage escrow accounts paid interest in the state of CT. Wow!
Is it compounding?

Were you ever late making your rental payments? I read you forfeit the interest if that is the case.

It states

Tenants forfeit interest on their security deposits for any months when they are more than ten days late paying their rent. The only exception is when a tenant's rental agreement already contains a late charge for overdue rental payments.

I was never 10 days late and I have a late charge to pay stated in my lease if I was 10 days late. so I don't think this applies to me.
