Gang, I might get back to the North East

Have almost secured a job in Manhattan. Am looking to live in CT again coz I know the state.

Which would be the best city with the least time of commuting to the sixth avenue, between 43rd and 42nd street, the bank of america tower to be precise.

Is anyone commuting this far presently? What are the daily difficulties faced? Is there any good option like park and ride in a not so insanely packed parking lot close to a train station???

I'll be happy if the total commute will take 40 to 45 minutes. Is it even possible???

Have also been looking at Jersey. Would you rather recommend Jersey???

Check out Stamford or White Plains. I wouldn't recommend Jersey because the area where you'll be working is right around the corner from Grand Central, where the trains from the Hudson and New Haven lines come in.

Stamford is about a 45 minute train ride to Manhattan. White Plains is about 40 minutes. Thousands of people make these commutes daily. Jay

I remember giving a friend of mine a ride from Fairfield to Manhattan...We left at 4am...Got there by 5am....He was a stock broker....So depending on what time your commute will be and budget... I hate recommending Westchesater/NY so...Stamford, Greenwich, New canaan, Norwalk, Darien, ridgefield, wilton, westport.....even Danbury..you can take I-84 to 684 to sawmill but that might be an hour commute...

I'm not a fan of long commutes (30 min. max), so I wouldn't even recommend living in CT. Long commutes take away precious time of your life.

Well said... Agree...not only takes time away from your life but the stress of traffic shortens your lifespan.

Same here. The only way I'd do a NYC commute is if I lived in the immediate neighborhood of a station between Greenwich and Darien, and worked within a five block radius of Grand Central. Even then, it would be an hour. In mileage, NYC is so close. In travel time, it's far.

+1

Sometimes I don't understand how people can manage their commute if the train ride alone is more than 1 hour. 3 hours spent on commute sounds like slaved to NYC for me.

If I work in NYC but have a family, I'll probably buy some beat up house in WCT and stay until all the kids go off to college. Then I'll renovate the hell out of it, sell it and move back to the city.

It is all a matter of trade off. If you want a decent house in a nice town with good schools and you can't afford $1 million or more, then you have to travel. Some people love it, some don't. That is why I often say that Hartford is a very liveable city. You do not have to live miles away from the city to own a nice home. Jay
