I am new to these forums but I need to do some research. I work for a wholesale building supply company and I was offered a position in the CT/RI/Lower Mass area as my territory.

I am only in my mid 20's but I am looking for a somewhat central location. I am from Pennsylvania and used to the country back roads and being just outside of the city so to say. I am big into cycling and skiing so somewhere where I could do both would be nice.

Does anyone have any recommendations on cities to live in? I appreciate any help, Thanks!

You could live in Providence.

CT/RI/Lower mass - I guess you could try Hartford as well. I mean if you are looking for cities those are your two choices. I would not want to live in the suburbs in the CT/RI area because there isn't as much chance to get to know other people your age. Sturbridge Ma is another place.

I would not want to live in the NE corner of CT because it is pretty rural. You might like it but you would have a lot of trouble meeting people. I am not that familiar with the area though.

How is New Haven? Are there decent suburbs around that area?

I am used to driving an hour or more to the city (Philly or NYC). I am from the Lehigh Valley (Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton) which is an hour north of Philly.

Hey, I'm a 26-year old male and lived in CT my whole life. Do you know exactly what your service area will be in MA? "Lower Mass" is kind of vague. I'm not sure if that would include Springfield or just the Cape Cod or Taunton area. Mass is an odd-shaped state. Will you have to go as far as Stamford, CT? Help me understand the exact boundaries of your work area.

At first glance, however, I would say eastern CT, probably Groton. There is more age diversity there, because of several colleges and a military base.

New Haven is a nice small city with a very good night life for singles. There are many suburbs that are good places to live. I would suggest considering the shoreline towns east of New Haven. Branford has a nice downtown and a lot of apartments and condos to rent. Plus it is accessible to most of Connecticut, Rhode Island and parts of Massachusetts. It might be a good place to look. Jay

If you have to travel an hour to MA and an hour to CT then I would suggest you set-up in RI. Lots of nice suburbs there and plety of ocean access. I like the area around Coventry and Cranston, RI. From there it will be easy to get into Providence for some excitement or Gillette stadium if you like football. You have the amtrak like running along the shore if you want to get to Boston (even commuter rail to boston) or back down to PA.

If you really want to set up in CT as prev posted...give us some more details about where in CT you need to be; I like the groton area too...for the same reasons as Coventry, RI.

I'm having trouble picturing your territory. What do you mean by "Lower Mass"? How much do you enjoy skiing? There aren't very many ski places this far south. You might want to leave near one of the few that do exist (or count on heading to VT/NH quite a bit in the winter).

Best places might be Groton/New London/Norwich in CT, Providence RI, or if your territory is far enough north - Worcester MA.

Northeastern Connecticut is centrally located between Hartford and Providence, but I wouldn't choose to live out here if I didn't have to.

Best areas for young guys who want to mingle and getaway just as easily in CT:

Manchester is great as its only 30 mins to "lower Mass". Vernon can also work. Enfield is a strong possibility. Folks tend to work in either Hartford or Springfield.

Hartford has a decent night life. Not great...but decent.

It's funny you said that as I was thinking the same thing but didn't want people to think I was being a cheerleader, because I'm not.

The RI border is 40 minutes away, Mass 30 and you have access to I84/384/91/291 to get enroute in any direction pretty easy.

Lots of newer nice apartment complexes here too.

Hartford is literally 13 minutes away.
