Hi there--I'm looking at moving to CT in October from Central Florida. I currently live in an apartment community with a doorman and secuirty system that also allows me to have my 20 lb. dog. I would like a studio or 1 BR and would like to stay below $1000/month.

I am having a hard time locating safe apartment complexes that are within a decent commuting distance to Bristol (20-25 minutes). Every complex claims to be safe, but I'm interested in the perspective of real people. Also, I am in my mid-twenties and would like to be somewhat near a lively area of town. Having never been to the area, I'm not sure where to start and am getting lost in website seaches. Please offer any assistance you can!

Bristol is a small mill town, portions of which have seen better days. Many of of the towns surrounding Bristol are safe as is most of Bristol. Finding a place in your price range may be difficult due to your dog but it will not be impossible. I would start looking in Southington, Plainville and Farmington. These are all very safe communities that are near where you will be working. Jay

Unfortunately none of the towns around Bristol - including Bristol itself - are lively. Quite the opposite. At your age, I wouldn't bother with those towns - you're going to get bored very quickly. If you want lively, you're looking at commuting from West Hartford or Middletown, both of which are doable drives. Middletown is cheaper, but you should still be able to find a small studio in West Hartford for your budget. It's just the dog that will be tricky. I recommend West Hartford if you can find a studio at your price that accepts dogs. It is your best bet in the area.

Good luck.
