My husband and I are originally from the Darien/Stamford areas. We've been gone about 8 years. I am wondering if Darien schools are still the best. Thoughts?

ps: I went to Stamford schools and did well-it was what I made it, but I graduated on the late 90ies so I've heard much has changed.

Yes, Darien is still considered to have some of the best schools in the area. You can find information on the schools at the links below. Jay

Well, saying that they are still "the best" will stir things up a bit won't it? Many communities in Fairfield County have well respected school systems!

I would agree. They do the same thing in Westchester County between areas like Rye, Scarsdale and Bronxville. You are literally splitting the most minute of hairs. Pick the area that best suits you with top-ranked schools, and you will be fine.

Stamford, though, is definitely not considered a top-ranking district.

I'd have to agree... The difference in the quality of schools in Darien, Westport, New Canaan, Ridgefield and even Wilton and Weston are pretty minimal. You really can't go wrong. Pick the community that suits you best and you are unlikely to experience any problems.

Why do people tend to exclude Greenwich from the top districts? I understand that the west side of town pulls the scores down, but is it really that much different than Darien?

I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps Greenwich is too diverse for them to recommend.

All of those schools offer amazing educations (including Stamford) and I wouldn't even try to figure out which one is best.

Westport is "one of the best", too.
