Eventually, I want to transfer to NYC, but I may have the opportunity to work in Waterbury for now. What do you think? Would New Haven be a good place to live, if I can afford to live in a nice building like 360 State Street? I'm a health nut who is very much into the arts.

That's a tough drive to do every day since there's no direct highway between New Haven and Waterbury.

You could take 63 all the way to 8 - but I don't have a good idea anymore of how busy that is in the morning.. i would think that would be considered 'against' traffic' for the most part - I doubt people commute from new haven to waterbury much?

Considering it's only about ~20-25 miles, even relatively slow traffic wouldn't take all that long.

New Haven is about 25 miles from Waterbury but as noted it is all back roads. The trip will take you about 40 minutes to an hour depending where you work and where you live. Only you can decide if that is worth it. Why not give Waterbury a chance first and then if it does not work out, move to New Haven. Jay

New Haven is certainly going to offer a lot more as far as arts are concerned. If you want to live in a city, I would recommend it strongly vs. Waterbury. Waterbury doesn't offer much.

I work in Waterbury and live in New Britain. I'd choose New Britain in a heartbeat over living in Waterbury...the other posters are right that it offers nothing, in comparison New Britain's "art scene" is worlds better. If you are willing to deal with the commute and traffic to/from New Haven, then go for it. And it'd be easier to get to NYC from there vs. Waterbury as well.

First, congratulations on getting a job you like!

Please consider looking in Middlebury or Southbury. They're the next two towns west from Waterbury. New Haven is not doable in the winter, or with rush hour traffic. Plus, consider that gas is on its way to $5 a gallon.

The OP wants to live in a city with arts and whatnot. As nice as Middlebury and Southbury are, there is NOTHING to do there.

I am in a similar situation, but I don't care so much about arts and whatnot. Is Middlebury and Southbury safe places to raise a family? Is the commute easy in winter? How about public transit? Is there a bus that goes regularly to Waterbury (where I have a potential job)?

I am looking at west of Waterbury because I have family out towards Danbury, but I am not from CT.
