We have an accepted offer to buy an 1890's property in Darien.

I want to get the water tested for lead. Had an environmental guy come out tonight that said that the water has to be sitting overnight for best results. Going to be tricky because people still live there. Any idea how this is normally handled? And any recommendations for someone to do the water testing? This guy charged me $310 to do a mold visual and a radon test which seems ridiculous in hindsight so I'd prefer to find another company.

Also I want to get a sweep done for an underground oil tank - any recommendations? The same environmental guy said he charged $350 which seems like a lot to walk around with a metal detector.

The building inspection was tonight and except for an old roof, everything was reported to be in pretty good shape. I didn't love the inspector though and while I haven't seen the report yet I just don't have warm fuzzies about the guy. So now I'm wondering if there were questions I should have asked? Any other issues I should be concerned about/testing for?

Thanks!

We did a radon test a couple of years ago and I'm pretty sure we paid in the $300-350 range. It's hard to remember for sure but it doesn't sound outrageous especially for FFC.

I wonder if anyone else remembers better what they've paid for a radon test.

I talked to my realtor about the price today and she said that because it's an environmental company they use more sophisticated tests than just a regular inspector that would have charged $50-ish.

I ended up using the same company to do the lead in water test and the search for any underground oil tanks - they're easy to work with and they can do everything very quickly because they're in FFC.

There are inexpensive kits you can buy at Lowes or Home Depot as well.
