I may be getting a job in Stamford and need to find somewhere I can afford on 50K a year. I found an $800 a month studio in Bridgeport, is anyone familiar with this address and if it is a safe area (I have not read many good things about alot Bridgeport)?

955 Main Street Bridgeport, CT 06604

It is right next to the Bridgeport Amtrack which would be perfect to catch a train into Stamford.

Thank you!

That is the old Citytrust Building which is a converted bank building downtown. I understand it is very nice. Downtown Bridgeport is an up and coming place to live. There are a lot of new restaurants and bars in the area and a number of old commercial buildings are being converted into apartments and condos. The area is generally safe and it is located two blocks from the train station. Many people who work in Stamford and New York are moving to this area because it is convenient and affordable. Jay

Is 700-900$ the norm in Bridgeport?

Thanks for the info Jay, I was worried given the price is so low (for sw CT anyways) that it must be in the middle of the hood.

Metro-North services Stamford. Amtrak goes to Penn Station.

It is in the middle of the hood. Check out the area carefully before you sign a lease.

I would like to make a trip up beforehand to see, right now I live in NC so I am trying to get an idea so I can narrow something down. Do you have any suggestions for places in Stratford?

I do not consider Downtown to be "the hood". Many young professionals are moving there for nice affordable urban living. I do agree though that not too far from downtown it does get sketchy but downtown itself is not bad. Jay

You should be able to find something near the Stratford train station within your budget. I have no idea what the condition would be of this unit: Commuters: Stratford studio (http://newyork.craigslist.org/fct/abo/2498069541.html - broken link) but the proximity is great.

Who is your source on these young professionals? The CT Post? Don't believe the media hype. DT Bridgeport is still a dump.
