Do we have EZ pass carpool discounts (non-commuter) when traveling through toll bridges from CT to NY/NYC? For example: Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, Tappan Zee Bridge? They have these discounts in NJ and NY.

Thanks and happy Friday!

There are no tolls in CT. You either get your EZ Pass from NJ or NY.

Hi All,

Called EZ pass and got answers to my own questions. To get a regular discounts(Having an EZ pass vs not having one) when travel to NY via Tappan Zee Bridge or Bronx-Whitestone Bridge etc, you need a NY EZ pass account/device. Once you register your NY EZ pass account for carpool discounts, you enjoy discounts (if you have at least 3 persons in your car) when travel on Port Authority and MTA bridges connect Manhattan to outer boroughs. If you have a NJ EZ pass account, you only enjoy carpool discounts if you register on Port Authority bridges and tunnels. NY wont give you discount on MTA bridges if you have an out of state EZ pass.

How do they know you're carpooling?

You have to sit in the cash/EZ Pass lane. Keep the $2, I'd rather not sit in those lines.

You have to have three people in your car to drive in the HOV lanes from early in the morning until eleven or noon, then anyone can drive in the lane. There are usually/sometimes cops by the entrances to the tunnels by the HOV lanes to check for carpooling passengers. Ticket if you don't have three. People have tried to literally ride with dummies in their cars to avoid traffic and cruise through the HOV.

The wait at the GW northbound can make you cry if you don't have an EZ Pass.

The wait for the GW Northbound makes me cry either way. It doesn't really seperate out the cash users vs. the EZ path lanes until the last stretch, which creates a bigger nightmare because everyone is trying to cross over from opposite sides. Literally, it's the dumbest design of all of the bridges, IMO.

I agree. It makes me insane when someone "suddenly" realizes they don't have and EZ Pass and sits with their car horizontal, trying to wedge into the cash lanes, and blocks the lanes. SMH.

They should partition the lanes like Chicago to avoid such problem.
