No, what this says is that Irene is a TS at that point over New England. It will still be a CAT I hurricane at landfall. You can't tell this directly from the map.

The estimated wind speed at landfall is 80-90 mph near the center

Only because it's still moving northwest, but the models don't just "guess" they look at steering winds, past history, etc. We need to see if at the 11am or 2pm or 5pm updates if we start to see a change in direction to NNW and eventually north.

I grew up in a coastal town and usually only the people with direct water frontage (or very close to it) boarded up their windows. I have never seen or heard of others doing it, not that it is a bad idea or anything. This includes Hurricane Gloria where we got slammed and had no power for over a week.

I am 30 miles inland as the crow flies, so I don't think boarding is necessary. My biggest concern is the trees around my house falling on the roof, but there isn't really anything I can do about.

I remember back in the day hurricane was supposed to hit Tampa and instead it hit other way LOL so I can only image for Irene

I'm assuming either the white or yellow path, or maybe orange. I think it will go more west than east.

Here's the latest..and these are the Tropical models..GFS and Euro which are the 2 main most reliable models have it straight into NYC.

We always talked about evacuations in threads... I dont think CT will be at that point but parts of Long Island maybe.. Long Island is going to get slammed.

Here's HWRF (the most reliable Tropical model). Top left is wind speed. Top right is Surface pressure. Put it this way....a 990mb low is a strong storm.

so what are we all thinking for winds? if this forecast stays true, eye will pass damn close to my parents home on the south shore of L.I., then cross the sound and hit land again i don't know around Bridgeport? And then what? So Hartford will still see gusts to 80 maybe that still sucks. No storm surge obviously this far inland. Long Island/Queens/Coastal Jersey has big issues as it seems right now.

Praying for an easterly swing, this is not looking to nice.
