You live in a cave or something? Everyone is calling this a 100-year event.

The earthquake highlighted how ridiculously hard it would be to evacuate NYC should it ever be needed in the future, given how many people were poured into the streets over such a small quake. This hurricane wouldn't call for such evacuations, but it puts that sort of mentality on peoples' minds.

Asking "what if?" prepares you. It's not hyperbole, it's important. The world is changing. We are in a much better position than we were 100 years ago when these major storms wiped things completely away. We're more prepared than we were even 26 years ago when Gloria hit.

Weather science doesn't improve on its own. The vast interest in the weather and preventative science pushes forward.

Don't get left behind.

I was in West Haven on the shoreline when Gloria hit. Was homeless afterward. Roof was ripped off apartment building and all the water came down into our 1st floor apartment. It was really bad. Huge trees came down and took the power lines. No power for over a week in most of shoreline CT. Had to find a new place to live. I hope this is not as bad.

So if this holds true wecwind up on the western side, more rain but less wind I can dig it. Unfortunately it will probably shift 10more times before they nail where in the NE landfall will be.

Couple of heads up and since its still down south this shouldnt scare anyone.

Irene is bombing out..It will be a Cat 4 maybe by the 11pm update. The concern I have is it might want to stay over the warmer waters "off" the coast and keep moving north...That might make it a Cat 5 and that would mean a rare Cat 3 into NYC. I hear the prayers starting.

Another note....... We cant compare Irene to Gloria anymore. Irene is bigger

Lets talk times now.. NY/CT areas..add more hours for RI/MA/NH/ME

Last GFS model has it faster..

Starts raining Saturday afternoon.
Gets heavier at 8pm
Winds pick up overnight
Torrential rains and intense winds Sunday morning
Clears out Sunday after 8pm.

I dont like that model run... Shirt those times ahead 6 hours... Rain starts after 8pm Saturday.

We'll see what other models do.

Very detailed article from Steve D. Its lengthy but very interesting. Talks about time frame, landfall, impacts, outcomes for specific areas and system to the west which wont steer Irene away. NYC landfall he thinks 8pm Sunday. That means intense winds Sunday lunch time to Sunday night

Northern CT wont be as bad (If only a Cat 1 in NYC)
