National Weather Service Text Product Display


NWS Upton is following HPC guidance. From their 3:11 PM discussion:

IMPACTS OF TROPICAL SYSTEM IRENE POSSIBLE LATE THIS WEEKEND AND FOR
THE START OF NEXT WEEK. DUE TO UNCERTAINTY IN TIMING...STRENGTH...
AND TRACK OF THE SYSTEM...WILL FOLLOW HPC GUIDANCE. BASED ON
THIS...RAIN WOULD BEGIN TO SPREAD INTO THE REGION FRI NIGHT AND INTO
SAT. THE HEAVIEST RAIN AND STRONGEST WINDS WILL THEN OVERSPREAD THE REGION SUN NIGHT INTO MON MORNING. ADDITIONAL IMPACTS FROM THIS SYSTEM COULD BE SIGNIFICANT BEACH EROSION...HIGH SURF WITH DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS...AND COASTAL FLOODING. PLEASE REFER TO THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER FOR THE LATEST FORECASTS AND STATEMENTS REGARDING THIS SYSTEM.

Landfall is Wilmington now..keeps shifting East..a true coastal plain run to CT if it goes much further East...

Yeah...that is not good for us. It just means it stays stronger for longer south of us. I'm going to look at some afternoon models now..

The GFS runs 4 times a day..here are the 4 runs from today... It seems inevitable we'll get something out of this..

The 12z run(11am) is a Cat2 hitting us.

Tell you what, i am starting to wonder if this makes landfall at all now. Tomorrow mornings model runs will be very key.

Good News: We have till Sunday, so much can change still.

Bad News: 95% of models have it heading for us. Since I dont want to favor one model, here's 4 other ones.

At this point I would say it's important to see how much it intensifies before it hits the coast initially (wherever that may be). Some places are saying it could be a cat 3 before it hits the Carolinas.

Its 18hrs ahead of schedule Intensifying to Cat 2. I'm thinking maybe Cat 4 peak now..This is crazy.

Also notice her forward motion speed. 10 mph? She's crawling. but soon to pick up again
