Is that good or bad??
Usually it means it's strengthening so it's "bad". It had been rising along with the weakening of the storm and lessening of the winds, which is why he said "make up your mind".

If it picks up forward speed (which Northeast tropical systems often do but hasn't so far) then yes it is very possible. The south side of a tropical system usually has a LOT less clouds than the north side. They said the same thing on one of the NYC channels, but I don't remember which one, I want to say Mr. G on Channel 11.

So uniform throughout but not near hurricane force anywhere...but most of the hurricane force winds found are to the east of the center,.. A NYC landfall puts CT on the east side and keep that in mind ..
The thing bothering me now is that the pressure is dropping (which could increase the winds) and the fact that it's still moving only a tiny bit more than the speed it was moving in the Bahamas. If it is only going 14 mph through the tri-state area, that would be bad even with those wind speeds. 24 hours of nonstop 50 mph winds and hours of storm surges and constant heavy rain is going to still be pretty destructive (and it was a gust of "only" 60 mph that sent that tree into an apt. building in Virginia and killed that 11 year old boy today. The original "path" projections of a couple of days ago assumed it would be speeding up at this point and going somewhere in the 20s if not 30 mph.

Forgot about this one... best site to see current wind speeds as close to your location as possible. Make sure that you click on 'all available networks' and then 'map it' where you see NWS on the left.

I don't see anything that says 'All available networks'. Where is this?

On the left side, you can pick the location (drop down box which would currently be defaulted to CONNECTICUT).

Under that, there's another drop-down box reading NSW. "Networks" is one of the options on that drop-down box. Right above the words "MAP IT."

Click Link. Pick the state you want.

There's a dropdown menu at the left..Choose All networks. Then pick the overlay display..temps, wind, whatevere you want and map it.

When do you think driving will become unsafe due to winds?

This is what Frances did: it was awful! It just stayed over us for 24 hours and did not move, just dumped rain. There was so much flooding that the friggin' canals overflowed!!

I doubt it will be that bad in CT. But still, flooding will be an issue. As I previously stated, the ground is already so saturated that flooding is very likely and it will take a while to subside.
