Not much has changed in my area of Stamford. Have had some impressive wind gusts, though can't say the speeds. A few branches litter my backyard, which is pretty big. Apperently, bunnies are not afraid of hurricanes, there's one munching away at my lawn, while all hell brakes loose around him. LOL. On a slightly more serious note, my yard goes down to the Rippowam River, and it definitely is up to full capacity. I expect for it to over flow, however no worries since my home is up on a small ridge while half my backyard is below the ridge and that,s the part that might flood. I wonder how things are at the coast with the high tide and surge we're suppose to get at the same time.

So much for the storm of the century- 500 year floods etc. Always a sensationalist.

Do you know where the 2nd landfall was? Was it in NJ? That would be historic as the last "hurricane" to actually landfall in the state of any kind was in 1903 (1944 and Gloria stayed just offshore).

The 8am update showed it moving 25 mph and center just south of JFK airport with claims it was still a 75mph Cat 1 according to the NHS (I know you said in an earlier post you think it went extra-tropical already). I noticed on the radar that the rain (which was weaker south of the eye anyway last night) is almost nonexistent south of the eye, so the rain could be done by mid-morning. All those surges could be happening now though.

NWS OKX had a press release that showed the biggest gusts so far at 71 mph somewhere in Suffolk County, 67 mph at LaGuardia, and 63 mph at Bridgeport, more "Nor'easter" winds than hurricane. But I think they released it at 5:30am so it may have changed.

We had a brief (less than 1 minute) outage at 6am (was woken up by the "beep" of my desktop's UPS), but so far lights on here in southern Westchester. I only notice brief, gusty wind, so maybe the eye is right over here right now, though at 6am it was quite windy here.

Little Egg, NJ.

the Center is now over Battery park. Pressure rising but winds staying steady. Highest gust reported is 62mph.

Dont go out yet guys...Winds will be as bad or worse then they were early morning behind the center..

The center is going NYC to Port Chester to New Canaan Danbury and Torrington and NE. So if this was a winter storm CT would have rain(right side). lol

Hurricane IRENE

Tropical Storm Jose has formed in the Atlantic....Dont worry...OTS

So Irene made landfall over NYC around 9am ET as a 65mph tropical storm, pressure 965 mb

Landfall #1 Cape Lookout, NC at 85mph.

Landfall #2 Little Egg Inlet, NJ at 75 mph.

Crosses NYC as Tropical Storm 65mph.
