Now that I've explained myself, can we agree to disagree?
so, why is Guilford superior to Old Saybrook for shopping then?

Old Saybrook is closer to the outlet malls in Westbrook and Clinton than Guilford. Old Saybrook itself and nearby Waterford have almost all the big box stores of Branford, North Haven & East Haven. Old Saybrook has the crappy Crystal Mall 15 minutes away, while Guilford has a better mall 30 minutes away in the Post Mall in Milford. (unless you're in north Guilford, when it's closer to 40 minutes away - which is about the distance from Old Saybrook to the West Farms Mall)

From Guilford, you do have much easier access to the Apple Store (New Haven) than you do in Old Saybrook (West Farms or New Haven) and a Costco in Milford is obviously closer to Guilford. But, you have a BJ's in Waterford that's closer than Costco is to Guilford, and a Costco coming to East Lyme next year.

So, Guilford is better for faster access to a decent mall in Milford, the Apple Store and Costco. Old Saybrook is better for in-town shopping and closer to the outlet malls.

If I had my choice, I'd live in Guilford, but I think you have just as much in-town shopping in Old Saybrook, if not more. And, good access to nearby shopping in Old Saybrook as well.

For the third time, I'm not debating this. My opinion is that Old Saybrook is far out. Leave it alone.
