I am in need of a car service from Stamford CT to JFK. Any suggestion where to look for a reliable service or any referrals? How much should I expect to pay? Never using a service before, I have a question about pick up. How do you find your driver at the airport? Do they hold up a sign with your name? Thanks for help.

I usually take CT limo to JFK. It is a private company, but you will be sharing a van with other people as well, so it is not a personal car. Usually when I get out of the luggage area I go to the travel desk and give them my ticket for CT limo and they call the company and thell them I have arrived and they come get you. Usually they are enroute as is, so its not long of a wait.

I've used this company (based in Greenwich) before & found them very competitive, with good drivers & vehicles. Not sure how much Stamford-JFK would cost currently, with the fuel prices - probably close to $200 (taxes & tip included) one way.

CT limo will be about $70 each way, depending on where you are going.

Thanks for the suggestion of CT limo. Their web site list $59 one way or $114 round trip. I guess with tip, it will be $70 each way. I might make my DH drive me. $140 is almost the same as my flight price!

Probably a lot, but I agree with CT limo. I know they have their main building in Bridgeport, and I think they have stops in New Haven, Norwalk & Stamford as well.

However, if your only going for a couple days, don't have much baggage and want a cheap fare (only about $30, compared to close to $70): take Metro North into Grand Central, get over to Penn station, take an LIRR to Jamaica, and at Jamaica take the air tran which stops at all terminals. the MNRR fare will be the most expenses, but its cheaper the closer you are to New York. the LIRR fare will be around $4, and the air tran fare is $5.

Great suggestion but this can be a hassle, especially with luggage.

If your only going on a weekend getaway, I'd rather make 5 subway transfers and pay $40 less then get a direct ride but I have to pay $80 instead of $30 if I took the train.

The Metro North is a decent alternative unless you fly overseas. In that case, you would get to the gate already tired. I have tried that and it is not fun. As for the CT Limo, I have tried it twice and it was awful both times: reckless drivers, rough companions. I am afraid any other service is quite expensive: $308 is the cheapest I could find from Glastonbury to JFK (and if someone has another better service to recommend, please come forward: I would appreciate it, as I travel oversees at least twice a year with two children.)

i would go with your husband and, when he picks you up, treat yourselves to a nice restaurant with the money you saved....

If you are coming from Glastonbury, why don't you just fly out of Bradley?

Hartford has non stop service to Amsterdam on Northwest airlines. You are no more than 1 connection to most of the world from there and Amsterdam is a great starting point for European travel.
