CT- I live in the Clinton area and commute to Derby everyday via 95 to 34, etc. The commute in isn't too bad but getting home is a nightmare. Can anyone suggest another route? I'm willing to have more road time with less traffic. Is 15 an option? Thanks in advance.

15 is an option, but you'd have to get off on Dixwell to get on 91 South. I'm not sure I would do this.

What's the bad part....through downtown New Haven and the 34/95 merge?

Yes, then the whole 95/91 split. I was wondering if 15 to 22 through northford would work. I don't mind going all the way north then heading south (I know it sounds ridiculous but...) Do you know if the traffic on 15 north in that area is bad?

I don't think it's too bad. Traffic going north on 15 starts to break up in the Milford area coming from Fairfield County. I'm pretty sure the traffic from Derby through Hamden is bad going south in the evening (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

You could try to take 15 N to Route 22 in North Haven, then shoot down Village to cut through to continue on Route 22. You could then pick up Route 1 in Guilford and hop on 95 there.

I sometimes do this in the summer on weekends when traffic on 95 is a mess, and its not too bad. Probably takes the same amount of time, but its much more plesant.

34 to Route 1 and get on 95 wherever the traffic lets up.

I can't say I'd recommend this. Half the battle is getting from Ella Grasso to Route 1. It can get really congested in downtown New Haven.
