Hi folks - we're getting close to putting our Southbury house on the market. Has anyone had any experience using Zillow's 'Make Me Move Price" or listing your house on Zillow? Wondering if it makes sense to try it before calling the realtor.

Don't think it's going to help much. I think people do that only when they're not serious about selling.

make me move is for people whose homes are not on the market, I thought. So, anybody using a realtor searching the MLS, or searching on realtor.com or trulia.com won't even see a "make me move" home on Zillow.

And, to be honest, when I use Zillow, I automatically uncheck homes that are listed as pre foreclosure or make me move. Not everybody does that, of course, but I'm sure if I do it, others do as well.

I ignore it too. Even if I was home shopping and saw a MMM listing, I'd never take it seriously. Maybe if it was a home that I was absolutely over the moon in love with, I'd maybe reach out. Unlikely.

If you list with a realtor using MLS, Zillow will pick up the listing and show it as a house for sale (at least they do here in NY).

That said, Zillow is stunningly inaccurate even when pulling info from the MLS listing! It can be really laughable. A friend of mine currently has her house for sale on MLS here on LI and among the inaccuracies that Zillow's page for her house shows are:

- Shows it as a Townhouse instead of a SFH
- Shows it as a 3-bath house instead of 2.5 bath
- Shows lot size as "unknown" instead of .5 acre which is shown on MLS
- Shows the heating type, cooling type, fireplace, basement type and floor covering as all "unknown" even though each is clearly specified/shown on MLS
- Shows the roof type as "other" (what the heck is an "other" roof? It's typical asphalt shingles, LOL)

Her realtor has tried to get Zillow to correct their information but hasn't been able to do so.

Supposedly Zillow gets a ton of traffic but I wonder how many people are really potential buyers. Everyone I know thinks that Zillow's information is wrong more often than it's right.

We used zillow to look for homes while searching because it had a very wide array for a search. They had the make me move and other features there but without more pictures I am not going to just walk up to someone's home and say "let me come see your layout" and then make an offer?

I'm not sure how that process would work with a real estate agent.

I will say I had people perusing my street this weekend. We had two open houses nearby with homes that are close in price to what we paid for ours (except less desirable, one was very dated inside and the other sits next to railroad tracks). So people were swinging up my street to take a look at my house.

Zillow has several errors with our home, too. I would hope people do not look at Zillow's listings and assume they are factually correct, because often they are not.

My friend sold his house in Suffield by listing on Zillow. He said it was easy and he enjoyed working with the people who bought it. He had a lawyer of course.
