We are relocating to Vernon, CT area. Any suggestions to renting places (apts, town homes, single family homes) are appreciated. Need a safe neighborhood with good school districts. Eventually planning to buy a house. Thanks.

Hi Nash. I lived in Vernon for about 18 months. It's an ok town. Nothing special about it. The schools are about average. What's your budget? I am a fan of neighboring Coventry or Mansfield-- where the University of Connecticut is. There are plenty of apartments, town homes and even single families for rent in the area and always real estate for sale.

Tell us a little about your budget and where you will be working. Vernon is commutable from a number of nice towns. In addition to Coventry, going closer to Hartford, South Windsor and Glastonbury are very nice.

Nash - I responded to this question in response to your DM. Vernon is a nice town but there are a few small sections (mostly in Rockville) that you need to be careful in. We get a lot of positive responses here on The Mansions at Hockenum apartments. Schools in Vernon perform under the state averages on the Connecticut Mastery and Connecticut Academic Performance Tests. For better perfoming schools, you might consider nearby towns like Ellington, South Windsor or Glastonbury. The link below will give you more information on schools in Connecticut. Jay

Why the vernon area? I assume you have a job somewhere. If you told us where that is, we might be able to help further.

Thanks mlassoff and Jay. I will look into the link you sent me. To answer mlassoff's question we are not sure where we want to move. For now I want to move into a nice location and then start looking to buy a house. Glastonbury seems to be my preference right now. Its about 13 miles from my office. But I welcome anymore suggestions. Thanks once again.

I like Glastonbury a lot. It is a much nicer town than Vernon, IMO.

Yeah look in south windsor if you really want a better school district and town to live. Vernon is not bad though and also cheaper. I suppose it depends on your budget and what you are comfortable living in until you buy a house.

skel1977, thank you very much. We will look at all our options. We are ok to spend a little bit more to get into a good school district and nicer neighborhood.
