The state gives millions to keep or get 200 plus jobs in CT. I love how P&W hit that 200 mark. Might be worth $20,000,000.

No surprise there; management has apparently made the decision to assemble the new A320 Neo engine in M-town. That's potentially a whole bunch of engines and will stabilize the workforce for quite a while. Probably add workers there too.

100k/job is not unsual. What is unusual, and its Malloys 2nd time considering UBS, is to offer any money at a headcount that represents a overall corp reduction from the headcount level the day the deal was signed.

See, this is exactly why we need a proven job creator like Linda McMahon to be ruling the state of CT.

Not saying she'd be good, but she has one edge over Malloy. She understands, by her experience, the private sector. We had that in Bredesen, our ex gov and former hospital exec. IMO, govs who have high level business experience are better suited to strike win-win deals, and more likely to have the guts to enforce them.

I wouldn't say someone who's created jobs in the private sector will enter the public sector and do everything for the good of the people. Kudos if they would. But I always suspect there is an alternative motive behind it. Maybe try to relax some FCC laws to benefit her company? Politics = gridlock. Everyone touts how they're going to go and change Washington all by themselves. She could probably do more good by creating private organizations to benefit different causes that she's interested in.

But anyways... I find it a bit odd they're laying off staff given that they have future orders and seems like they have big plans for the company. It could be something short term.

Given their parent corps prior comments on the business climate, this move is not surprising. But Malloy is setting dangerous precedents twice now, counting UBS, rewarding corps who overall are cutting local headcount.

Malloy is towing the democratic line and setting himself up for a comfy seat in Washington, that's it. Nothing more.

As for PW, they are a shadow of what it used to be. For anyone not knowing reality, they used to have 25,000+ in the East Hartford campus alone in the 80's and peaked at over 36,000 in East Hartford. That's a lot of good paying jobs...gone.

Right on; at their peak ~ Vietnam war~ they were assembling something on the order of 700 to 1000 engines per month. The fields around the airstrip were filled with employees' cars. When shift change happened, you didnt want to be anywhere near Main street, Brewer St or even in East Hartford!
