Was looking to rent a home around Greenwich for my wife and I. We were curious as to how to estimate our cost of living there compared to where we live now. I already understand the income tax but what other taxes, fees, unexpected expenses should we expect?

What's the cost of living like? Thanks!

Greenwich, CT is one of the most expensive areas in the country. The average home price is seven figures.

Where are you living now?

Well I'm not so concerned with home ownership as we're renting and will probably move back when my work contract is up in 3-5 years. We currently live in Florida, which happens to be fantastic when it comes to tax rates.

Since you guys are without kids it won't be too bad. Figure $1800-$2500 for a good 1BR.

It sucks plain and simple. Overpriced homes, high taxes on everything, etc, etc. Only move here if you have a really really good reason.

Oh and the traffic sucks too. Currently stop and go on the parkway....yet again. This state is awful

No such thing. It's supply and demand.

Default CT Taxes etc

As a relative newcomer to CT, here are some things I noticed. Cars are taxed by each town, at same rate as real estate. In addition to a state license fee. Fees for new driver's license, titles, tags are about average. Sales tax is about average, as is the state income tax (Just wait til you get to do the part-year forms. Turbo Tax is your friend !).
Utilities are very high. Avoid electric or oil heat, if possible. Coming from FL, winter heating bills could be your biggest shocker.
