Don't know about Edgewood, but West Rock is one of the better parks in the state for hiking/biking. Westville is real nice.

How safe is the down town New Haven area? Obviously it's not suburban...but has good access to things. Is it a neighborhood to feel good about? There's an apartment available on Crown St.

Where on Crown Street? Crown Street can definitely get rowdy on weekends. The closing time is always a scene with drunks coming out of all the bars. It's like living in any other large city's nightlife district. Crime, however, is not bad at all in that area. Then again, I wouldn't say it's quite as safe as, say, parts of downtown closer to Yale, Westville, East Rock, Wooster Square. That said, I wouldn't label it as dangerous.

Knowing the address would help.

You also want to check what parking is available at this apartment. Rates at a garage can be pricey. And don't forget your wife is going to be coming home in the dark during the winter.

The address is 196 Crown st right at Temple.

Just saw an apartment listing that seems a bit too good to be true...$699 2 br all utilities included on College ave near Yale school of med. Seems a bit low to me given the other rents we've been seeing around here.

Usually if it sounds too good to be true, there is a reason. Be very careful with these types of ads. Jay

You mean Congress Ave? It can get dicey as you move southwest. Could be in a bad area.

That area of Crown Street is VERY active and I wouldn't be concerned about safety. But just know it's a, ahem, lively area.

Isn't 196 Crown St. Kelly's Bar / restaurant ? There are condos in the stories above the bar. Must be a condo rental. Going to be loud & lively on the street for sure- lol . Check garage parking rate to see how much that is going to add to your monthly bill.

And who knows what the influx of Gateway College's new down town campus and its anticipated 10,000 students is going to have on congestion and parking. None probably if you're just coming into the city for restaurants /bars, theater, but for those who actually live down town ??

As for the one on College if near Yale, it's down by Congress and I'd consider that pretty sketchy.
