Hi All- I believe Connecticut Natural Gas services Glastonbury (at least according to some map I saw). However, where I am in South Glastonbury, oil is predominant (though I have seen yellow natural gas pipes sticking up out of the ground just a mile or two away!). Does anyone have background on the area regarding roadblocks or plans on piping natural gas to additional residential customers? Thanks.

Call CNG (Connecticut Natural Gas). The gas company's in CT are running lines as fast as they can. I have a friend that does the work. They are finding that when they inquire about running a line down the street about 75% of the houses want to connect.

Read my recent post here about it. You can save about 50-70% by switching to gas.

Thanks Brian. I inquired a couple months ago, and CNG replied that they don't have service here at this time and didn't have any plans. I can understand that most would want to have the gas lines run, if anything to save heating costs. I'm struggling to understand what the hurdles/road blocks are and am wondering what we (community) can do to get past them possibly.

Best thing to do is if there are natural gas line's close by. Get your street to say they want to convert. Go door-to-door and get people signing. A friend in Milford whose street was right off route 1 where there was a natural gas line got the entire street to say they would convert. The line was put in very quickly.

My friend says they are running crews 24/7 but can't keep up with the demand. Its expensive to run gas lines with all the permits/work involved. Its also very labor intensive.

Brian,

You seem to be familiar with the conversion process. When the gas company runs a line to the house do you know if tree roots are a problem or can they drill right thru that?

They don't drill for gas lines. They dig a trench and will likely cut through all tree roots. Jay
