Stamford is closing schools Monday Tuesday AND Wednesday (most districts are Monday and Tuesday, a few Monday only and "wait and see", mostly in NY). Here's what it says on their website:

Due to the expected severe storm, officials have declared states of emergency for Connecticut and the City of Stamford. Therefore, all stamford public schools will be closed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Families will be updated via Parentlink when more information becomes available. If you lose power and phone service, listen to 1400 Am with a battery powered radio. Again, schools are closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Thank you and be safe.

When can we expect the peak of the storm? Is that last afternoon Monday and into Tuesday?

I'm expected at work no matter what (dumb, dumb, dumb, not like I work for something that will assist people in these storms, like a hospital). I live 5 min. from work, so I'm thinking I'll go in, watch the weather, and leave if need be.

This thing has it all. Blizzard warning for parts of VA, WV, and MD. Snowing at 2500' in VA Cold air filtering into the storm now.

Dont worry, nothing for NJ/NY/CT but a few flakes not out of the question after it moves north.

it will feel like an island breeze for morning and lunch but things pick up afternoon until Tuesday morning.

Take half day, once those trees are on the roadways you do not want to be sitting duck waiting for it to be cut and the next one to fall

I've decided to stay home. Its not worth the risk since my wife and I commute together. I dont want to risk her life either. Job will have to deal with it.....what my place should do is close at least half a day......but they are all about the dollar.......
I think I could get there no problem.......but as Ive said on here, im worried about getting home.....or stuck on the parkway because of a downed tree...or worse.

The winds are getting closer to our area.

Probabilities of Tropical Storm wind.

The projected path is still the same. Southern NJ will be ground zero.

. ‎34 foot waves just southeast of the center of Sandy. 16 foot waves off Delaware. 23 foot waves off VA.

I'll never understand why the state doesn't "strongly urge" businesses to close. I mean, non-essential businesses. I'm sure they leave it up to us to use our own judgement, but not all jobs are friendly when it comes to calling out just because of weather.

I'm one block from the Oyster River in WH. 250 feet from the water. Not considered a flood zone based on 38/55 hurricanes. However, based on the Governor's comments it sounds like I am in the Category 4 zone. Only neighbors directly on the water have boarded up due to lower wind predictions as Irene had higher winds here.

I figure that my house is about 6 feet above high tide and is on 4 ft piers. Praying that our neighborhood isn't wiped out.

Apparently the stock markets are closing unplanned for the first time in 27 years (they don't say why 27 years ago, but doing the math I'm guessing that was because of Gloria):

Sandy: East Coast braces for epic hurricane,
