Are there any hiking trails in this area? Are there any areas to walk around by the water? I know Mystic has a small park in the downtown area, but I was thinking about something a little bigger.

Google Maps shows lots of parks, some state parks, in that vicinity. I'm sure many or most have hiking.

Connecticut College in New London has a fabulous arboretum with trails that are opened to the public.

I saw what was on google, but would like some details from people familiar with the area. Not all parks have extensive trails, some aren't open year round, etc.

If you Google the state park, the state lists hiking info for them on their individual pages.

The best-

1) Bluff Point State Park- Groton

900 acres on Long Island Sound - extensive water frontage, hiking trails through woods - some easy , some tough,

Route 1- turn south on Depot Rd, ( by Groton town hall). The park is at the end of the road.

2) Next best

Haley Farm- Groton- Noank

200 acres on Palmer Cove with some views of the Sound

Groton Long Point Rd. ( R 217). to Brook St.

3) No water view but nice enough park

Pequot Woods - Mystic - 140 acres

From Route 1 , take Allyn St. North, take a left at Sandy Hollow Rd - find park entrance

Thanks, these are exactly what I am looking for and are in a reasonable distance to my hotel. Now hopefully the weather cooperates!

Bluff Point is great, though on weekend days when the sun is out it gets CROWDED! It is an easy walk with little incline to a great vista on the bluff of LI Sound/the Atlantic, the lighthouses, etc. It certainly isn't strenuous (unless you do the multi-mile non-scenic loops in the park) but the payoff is nice.
