And to what effect?

Can you not buy apples here? Is there a gasoline shortage? Is gas remarkably more expansive than NJ and CT? Is our unemployment dramatically higher? Is your home not currently going up in value? Are you unable to find workers because the economy is so bad, people are moving?

In other words, what difference do these rankings really make? How do they effect your daily life? As far as I can tell, life is pretty good here. Restaurants are full, concerts sell out and the beach is crowded.

Rankings can be gamed... Not as concerned with our ranking. I am a bit alarmed at being the only state with economic contraction. FWIW, the state is large is probably not as vibrant as you and I experience in our insulated wealthy. We should also overlay our surprising population growth over the GDP decline. We do lead New England for population growth but it does not get factored into GDP (only CPI/inflation).

Not really picking any specific person out, but it seems like the people that are now complaining about the less than stellar GSP numbers are one in the same with those that constantly complained about "size of government" or "state workers" etc. It was the predictable result that many economists harped about for a while, but it seems like it is possible to eat the cake and complain about it too...

Right. When any economic numbers are improving, these same people shrug it off and say it's just because of government spending/hiring/etc. Would be nice if they took the opportunity to point out the opposite side when the government tightens up and it affects those same numbers.

Your argument would be a lot more compelling if you'd provide a realistic example instead of withholding it because you think I'm a meanie.

It has less to do with being a meanie, and more to do with acting like an adult.

While I appreciate the arbitration, I figure I live a pretty adult life.

Of course this is subterfuge, because if you stated what you do that is supposedly made so onerous by government regulation, I am fairly certain the need for regulation will be fairly apparent and your point would be lost.

Ad hominim attacks are so much easier than proving your point, I guess.
