Maybe its just me, but it sure seems like I see more people doing something with their smart phone while driving lately. Alot on the parkway. Sometimes they drive obviously slower while doing it, other times not so much. I've seen a guy watching a video on his phone while driving.

You'd think people would know better and have enough self control. And its not just young drivers, its adults. Why are people so carefree, willing to risk their lives or mine or other innocent men, women, children? Its as if they don't read or watch the news

A couple of weeks ago I was driving my kids to preschool. There was a car in front of me and it was all over the place. Going over the center lines, in and out of my lane, driving at differing speeds. As I got closer to the preschool, I pulled up next to the driver, who, I kid you not, had a bowl of cereal in one hand and her phone in the other, either texting or dialling.

I couldn't believe it.

Its out of control really. Problem is the law does not allow for real punishment. If people knew they risked a large fine or better yet loss of a license it would change. . . Until then...well stay safe.

Passed a guy this morning who was in and out of lanes, erratic speeds...steering with his elbow, holding a phone to his head while also typing on a laptop. Impressive multitasking, but also scary. Good thing I could quickly accelerate past him.

With the availability of Bluetooth headsets and integration into cars, there is really no excuse for this. It's really no different than drunk driving.

I noticed that too!
Did you guys know that NY changed their law?

Effective June 1, 2013, there are 5 driver penalty points, in addition to the fine of up to $150 for violations of the cell phone law.

I also have Bluetooth in my car, so I never dial phone numbers, text people, etc. Even before I had this car, I would just simply put my phone on silent and leave it in my pocket so I wouldn't be distracted by it. Its really scary, and I think the law needs to change. I've known too many people to get injured or die in accidents because of using their phone while driving. It is always sad to hear the stories from some patients' families.

Zero Tolerance in effect

Crackdown starts on texting and driving | WTNH.com Connecticut

A 'Zero Tolerance' crack down on distracted driving got underway Thursday and the chance of you getting caught texting or talking on a hand held cell phone just went way up.

Texting while driving is soon going to start really hurting. That's because in the closing days of the General Assembly Session lawmakers voted to increase the penalties but it also will score points on your driver's license points that will result in higher annual insurance rates.

There will be four, week-long enforcement waves this month, more later in the year.
