Hi all,

Am I crazy thinking about commuting from Fort Lee, NJ to Greenwich, CT (exit 3)? This is an August and judging by Google maps it does not look too terrible. It seems like I can take Henry Hudson, Cross County and then Hutchinson parkways to avoid Cross Bronx. Looks like it will be ~1 hour commute.

But I fear that after everyone gets back from vacation it will be total nightmare. I would appreciate any advice.

Thx.

Traffic will be absolutely horrible even if you avoid the worst highway in the country(cross bronx). You have to cross the bridge, which means you'll have to expect at least a 30-45 minute delay just to get across the gw at rush hour. If you don't give yourself an hour just to get across the bridge, you'll end up being late to work a lot. You'd probably have to give yourself at least 1 hour an 15 minutes from fort lee to greenwich at rush hour to drive to work to make sure you get there on time. You will make it quicker on some days, but other days will take that long or longer. So be safe. Expect around that long. Traffic will also be backed up on the hutch at rush hour. Check google maps at rush hour and you'll see.

Lots and lots of people commute from NJ into the City, so I agree with mikelizard about traffic on the Bridge. In addition, lots and lots of people commute from Westchester to Stamford, so I agree with mikelizard that traffic on the Hutch will be awful.

On the other hand, a job's a job. You do what you have to do.

Monitor traffic. On bad days, take this route: http://goo.gl/maps/MU4oP

It won't be fun, but it's doable.

Thank you, guys! I was monitoring traffic for the past two weeks and it did not look extremely terrible. But I did not not use car for commute for past 10years so I can't tell the difference between traffic in August and during school months. From what you predicting it will be extra 30 minutes starting from September. Is it a fair statement?

Also what exactly "30-45 minute delay just to get across the gw" means? I live in Fort Lee very close to the bridge and will be jumping on it from Palisades parkway or from the closest entrance to toll plaza. Assuming I will be exiting GWB to take Henry Hudson north. Is it still going to be 30-45 minutes? Or it is a 30-40 minutes from moment you hit traffic on I-95 / Rt. 4/46 and till you cross the bridge?

Traffic is horrible anytime of the year. If you live in fort lee and the take the gw bridge, then you probably understand the delays better than me. That bridge is a nightmare. lol I avoid it like the plague and take the tappan zee whenever possible(which can still also have delays, but not as bad)

I kind of understand GWB situation. What I'm trying to understand how it is going to be travel north on Hutchinson parkway, I-287 from Tappan Zee or I-95 past Cross Bronx parkway?
