As far as kids go, the whole point of gold plated suburbia is to segregate Junior from the unwashed masses. You are your parents, your schools, and your peer group. This is how socioeconomic segregation works pretty much anywhere in the US.
I don’t know of any suburban housewives who don’t drive either and I do know people that live in Weston. Like I said they moved there for the nature, privacy and peace and quiet. As for kids, usually they are involved in their school work, online social media and planned activities. They are unlikely heading to the mall in Stamford (that’s kind of an 80’s thing, my kids never go to the mall to hang out). It would be more likely they head down to Westport to hang out if anything. Likewise, how's the stay-at-home spouse going to pick up some vacation dough (say) if they are imprisoned in the boondocks and the huzzie has commandeered the car? For the sake of economy, doncha know. Since he hasn't had a raise in years.

For those who are inclined to be controlling, it's the next best thing to living in a Sharia state. De facto, the kids (who are too young to drive) and the spouses (who may be left without a car, or with an unreliable car, or without enough gas money for the car) are imprisoned. Being imprisoned promotes escape fantasies and drug use amongst the kids once they become adolescents and realize just how well and truly STUCK they are. The equally trapped parent is also despairing.

For many, the CT towns in which they live are desert islands: there is NO ESCAPE.
There is this thing called Uber...

Weicker, a former Republican, gave us the income tax and Rowland chose to give rebates rather than address a widening issue of pension funding. Then Rell chose to ignore a massive budget deficit and chose to borrow money to close it. And of course we all know about Malloys tax increase. No wonder we have such a mess. Jay.

A yep. No one was willing to admit to the problems for a long time. My favorite part was with the new budget when the GOP part of the legislature essentially reinstated the only programs they had actually cut after the fact because they had constituents affected.

Moore Capital Is Opening Miami Office as Rich Eye Tax Break

10 billion dollar hedge fund

“The change in federal tax laws -- which cap state and local tax deductions at $10,000 -- has led wealthy people in high-tax states like New York and Connecticut to decamp to Florida and Texas, where there is no state income tax. Other investment firms have already set up offices in the Sunshine State”

No surprise. Sadly, I do expect lots of movement away from the Tri-State to many Southeastern states.

It’s already happening at a rapid pace. FL is gaining 1,000 people per day.

This is exactly what I’ve been saying is happening and people here have tried to prove me wrong over and over and over.

It's a brutal truth to face.

I mean we can look at census numbers and see it. There can be an argument about who is staying and going but it's hard to deny the numbers completely. On the other hand as far as income vs cost of living CT still tends to do better then you would think but I'm not sure that can last if we lose to many employers.
