Hello everyone,
I'm a long time Connecticut resident and was thinking of moving to Harwinton.
I had heard, and sorry if I offend anyone who lives there, Torrington has started to see a bad element and considerable problems in the schools.
I know Harwinton borders on Torrington and was wondering if A. what i heard is true, and B. if this is spilling over into Harwinton.
If anyone can give me the scoop on Harwinton in general I'd be very grateful.
What you heard about Torrington is somewhat true in the downtown area, but it is nowhere near what Waterbury or New Britain are like in terms of that element.
None of it has spilled over into Harwinton. Harwinton is still a small, quiet, homogenous, rural town.

I have a good friend and some cousins that live in Harwinton. They all wanted to leave the Stamford area rat race and they all love it up there. The sections I have been in seem very nice. Harwinton seems like a beautiful quiet little Litchfield County town. I also seem to remember my friend saying it is only about 15-20 minutes from Hartford but I could be wrong about the distance.
I'll just add that there are few places to rent, and the cost to purchase a house is fairly high. So, there are few places for any "bad elements" to live. My brother attended Mills Regional high school, and it is considered good.

~36-44 minutes without traffic according to Google Maps.
