Am looking to relocate in the new england area from houston next year.connecticut has always been of interest. I am in my 50s, and have a long career in psychiatric social work. am looking for a large one bedroom apartment that is in an older neighborhood. I am also checking out employment in this area. have had enough of the fast moving freeways and the craziness of 5 million people. am originally from upstate new york. would appreciate some feedback as to the two areas mentioned and life in this state in general. thanks

Thanks for considering CT- there is a strong demand for educational, health care, and psychiatric social workers in Connecticut- so I doubt you would have difficulty finding a job here.

Have you decided on what part of the state to live? The greater Hartford and central Connecticut area has many jobs and the lowest cost of living in the state. Greater Hartford is also the states largest metro area at 1.2 million.

Fairfield county would also have many job opportunities, but the cost of living would be far higher the the Hartford area. A one bedroom apartment of high quality and 'charm' in a desirable town like West Hartford would cost over $1000 a month.

Greater Hartford offers a high quality of life, town to country and woods in 20 minutes or less, abundant culture in both the performing and visual arts. Shopping of the highest order, a regional crime rate below the national average, manageable traffic (far easier then Houston) Plus an hour less travel to the beaches of Long Island and Block Island sounds, quaint bed and breakfasts, wineries, historical sites and more. Boston is less then 2 hours away, and NYC 2.5 hours or less.

As Skytrekker indicated, the Hartford area is great, but you may also want to consider the New Haven area as well. New Haven is a nice small city with a lot of oppotunities in the medical field. I am sure you will find a good job there. Jay
