The DOT even posts this detour on their electric signs along I-91. Most suckers pay zero attention and sit in traffic on 91 to 84 while Route 2 sits empty. Unless there is a catastrophe on Route 2, there is no reason to ever sit in that mess on 91 north.

I agree the Route 3 to Route 2 to I-84 option works well most of the time but should note that Route 2 is a major commuter route into Hartford and the section of Route 2 from Route 3 to I-84 does become congested during the morning rush hour. Jay

yes it does. that's how i get to work (E River Dr) and Rt 2 is always busy if not a parking lot.
